Jul 05, 2026"You know when you walk up to a restaurant and get that feeling that it is going to be special? That is how I felt about Le Ricette di Nonna Peppa. I needed to write this review before I forgot as I have a tendency to do so. I had looked at their menu online & knew I had to stop in for my last night in Sicily. From the mural outside to all of the cute touches inside, it was designed with love. I walked up & asked if they had senza glutine (gluten free) food and was greeted with a smile & “no problem!” They truly seemed excited to make me food I can eat. Usually it is the opposite in USA. The very sweet gentleman who waited on me (maybe the owner) even introduced me to one of the chefs. The pasta with sausage, mushrooms and cream sauce was incredible. I got it for takeaway so I could eat it for colazione before the airport, as I am sure my options are limited there. Of course I had to take a few bites while it was still hot. I could not resist because other people’s pasta looked & smelled so delicious. It was bursting with such flavor and umami. They can basically make most things gluten free. I do not believe they have a separate deep fryer, so expect that anything fried will be pan fried and not as crispy as from a deep fryer. This is good for celiacs. I am not celiac (just gluten intolerance), so I can handle cross contamination. It is harder to translate that so I just let them do their thing. I spent roughly US$47. I ordered two glasses of house white wine, a bottle of sparkling water, fried squid, melanzane parmigana & the pasta to go. They also had GF bread rolls. The prices there are so incredibly reasonable for what you receive. This is a special place in the Sferracavallo area of Palermo & I wish them all the luck!!"
